along the Coron-Busuanga road
Exploring Busuanga’s South Coast
Leaving Coron Town via the main highway westward, you’ll embark on a journey along Busuanga’s South Coast, leading you all the way to New Busuanga and Ocam Ocam. This southern highway is well-maintained and easily navigable, making it perfect for exploration.
Below, we’ve put together some recommendations for stops along this scenic route, whether you’re exploring this part of the island or just passing through on your way to the west.
Kingfisher Park: A Peaceful Oasis
Just a 20-minute drive will bring you to Kingfisher Park, a tranquil haven for nature lovers and birdwatchers. This hidden gem offers a serene escape into Palawan’s lush mangrove forests and wetlands, far from the bustling island tours. Named for its vibrant residents, the park is a biodiversity hotspot home to numerous migratory and resident bird species, including various kingfishers, herons, and cormorants. It’s an ideal spot to quietly observe wildlife, enjoy the sounds of nature, and capture stunning photos. Besides birdwatching, visitors can explore via gentle walks or relaxing kayak tours through the mangroves. Kingfisher Park perfectly complements Coron’s more adventurous offerings, showcasing Palawan’s diverse natural beauty beyond its famous beaches and underwater wonders. It’s a must-visit for those seeking a quieter, more authentic side of the Philippines.
Factuar Hill & Bintuan Mangrove Park
Close by, you’ll find the Factuar Hill hiking trail, which is manageable even for novice hikers and rewards with magnificent views. Here, you can immerse yourself in nature and sometimes even spot monkeys.
A bit further lies the Bintuan Mangrove Park, which offers tours and becomes enchanting at dusk with countless fireflies illuminating the bay. While not as developed as Kingfisher Park, tours here are less frequent.
Concepcion, Busuanga Bay & Sagrada
For those with more time, we highly recommend spending a day or more in the Conception area, as it offers a wealth of experiences. Divers will find some of the best WWII shipwrecks virtually on their doorstep, allowing them to explore in smaller groups, often before other dive boats arrive. Pirate Divers also regularly runs trips to the Black Island wreck, a site rarely visited from Coron Town. The water here is significantly clearer due to the absence of nearby pearl farms, and since last year, you can witness a sardine run directly offshore – an excursion that will make any diver’s heart race.
Near Concepcion, a small waterfall is easily accessible from the main road. After a short, scenic walk through lush vegetation, you’ll reach this idyllic spot where clear water cascades over rocks into natural pools. It’s the perfect place to cool off on a hot day, take a refreshing dip, and savor the peaceful ambiance. A welcome stop for anyone driving along the highway.
Kayaking Adventures & Hidden Gems
For those seeking more adventure, we recommend renting a kayak and paddling into the mangroves. In Busuanga Bay, you can do this at places like Al Faro Hotel or Bella Louise Guesthouse, just past Concepcion. Busuanga Bay is also home to an old seaplane wreck that you can explore by kayak, offering a fantastic photo opportunity.
Paddling from Bella Louise Guesthouse through the bay, you can either venture into the mangroves to observe birds and nature or head further out to visit Kaniki Beach. This peninsula, with remnants of an abandoned hotel complex, boasts a beautiful natural beach. It’s also ideal for snorkeling, teeming with corals and marine life. The peninsula is private property and guarded; entering the old hotel complex is forbidden, but the beach itself is definitely worth the trip. Plus, the food at Bella Louise is fantastic, and you can enjoy it with a view of the bay.

Pass Island Excursion
Pass Island: A Postcard Paradise off Busuanga From Concepcion’s port, you can quickly and easily reach Pass Island. While also visited on island-hopping tours from Coron, departing from Concepcion offers a much quicker journey, allowing you to enjoy its beauty without the crowds. This picturesque island is famous for its flawless white sand beach, gently meeting vibrant turquoise waters – a perfect setting for postcards.
There are a few small huts on the island available for overnight stays, but you’ll need to bring your own food and drinks as no restaurant exists. If you’re interested in an overnight stay, contact [Link], who can arrange both boat transfer and accommodation. Surrounded by clear, shallow waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling, Pass Island offers a relaxed atmosphere perfect for sunbathing or a picnic under the palms. A visit to this small, tranquil island promises pure relaxation and unforgettable moments in a tropical paradise. You might even encounter turtles while snorkeling! For spontaneous visits, head to Concepcion and inquire at the shop next to Westatlantic Hotel; they can usually arrange a boat with a captain for about PHP 3000 round trip.

Beyond Concepcion
Continuing further along the coast, you’ll find two accommodations boasting pools and sea views: Alam Indah and the lovely Cocovana Beach Resort, which warmly welcomes day guests.
The road then leads to Salvacion / Busuanga, the island’s second-largest town after Coron Town. From here, you can arrange excellent excursions to offshore islands and kayak tours on the Busuanga River. Rio Playa Beach, situated on the river, is also worth a visit, though the beaches accessible by boat from Salvacion are generally more beautiful. The town also offers good restaurants and pleasant accommodations, such as the White Summerville Tourist Inn or Josefina’s Tourist Inn.
However, if you’re seeking pure beach bliss, continue a bit further to Ocam Ocam on the West-Coast.
