A Slice of Africa in Palawan

Salvacion , Capital of Busuanga

When people plan a trip to Busuanga Island, Coron Town is usually the first place they hear about. But if you want to escape the crowds, enjoy a calm atmosphere, and see how island life actually feels, let me introduce you to Salvacion.
Salvacion is the capital of the Busuanga municipality. Many locals still call it simply “Busuanga” because, for a long time, it was the only major town in the area. While it used to sit in the shadow of Coron Town, Salvacion is rapidly growing into a vibrant destination of its own. It is the administrative heart of the region, home to a large high school and a campus of Western Philippines University.
In recent years, local business owners and expats have started moving here for a simple reason: quality of life. It’s clean, well-run, and offers everything you need for a comfortable stay without the chaotic traffic of Coron.

The Gateway to Western Island Hopping

If you want to experience pristine beaches without fighting for space, Salvacion is a great base. Local boats take you directly to stunning nearby islands like Pamalican Island, North and South Cay, Debotunay, and Black Island. It’s the ultimate Palawan paradise experience, far away from the crowded tour groups.
Getting here is easy, too—the local bus station connects Salvacion with Coron Town five times a day.

Where to Eat & Drink in Salvacion

Salvacion has a surprisingly rich food scene. You will find great meals at local prices, skipping the inflated menu costs of Coron City.
Sakura Restaurant and Bar – Hands down one of the standout dining spots on the entire island. The variety on the menu and the food quality are incredible.
Luna Cafe – A high-quality coffee shop that easily tops the big coffee chains. My personal recommendation? Try the Iced Salted Caramel.
The Village Kitchen – A lovely, welcoming spot. You can tell owner Claire puts genuine passion and care into every dish she serves.
Echague Restaurant and Bar – Serves delicious Filipino staples at fair prices with attentive, friendly staff.
Til Dawn Bar and Restaurant – Excellent, authentic homemade Filipino food at very budget-friendly rates.
WHY NOT Burger & Coffee Cart – A tiny street food stall right along the main highway leading into town. Perfect for a quick, quality burger and a great coffee stop.

If you need to unwind after a day of exploring, stop by Malipay Spa Busuanga for a massage. It has a fantastic local reputation and very fair prices.

Things to Do Near Town

East of Salvacion (Along the Main Highway)

Palatpat Beach – Located just before you enter town. It features a nice small swimming pool right by the ocean, making it a great spot to swim, eat lunch, and relax.
Cocovana Beach Resort – Right in the same area as Palatpat. It offers comfortable, beachfront accommodation that is affordable and very well maintained.

West of Town (Along the Highway)

Heading west, you will cross the scenic Busuanga River into Old Busuanga:

Busuanga River & Fireflies – Rent a kayak near the highway in Old Busuanga to paddle down the river delta out to the sandy beach. In the evening, stick around to watch the fireflies light up the trees.
River Crab House Seafood Carenderia – One of my absolute favorite secrets in the area. It’s an amazing seafood restaurant built on stilts directly over the water, surrounded by fireflies at night.
Rio Playa Beach Bar – Found at the end of the road from Old Busuanga. It’s a sandy stretch with a chill beach bar, deck chairs, and huts to rent overnight. It opened in early 2026—while it had a few minor service hiccups early on, it remains a fantastic spot for a cold drink by the water.

Where to Stay in Salvacion & Busuanga

Whether you want budget-friendly options or upscale comfort, Salvacion has choices across all price points:
White Summerville Tourist Inn – One of my top personal favorites. Low prices, great value, friendly staff, and a lovely garden pool.
Josefina’s Tourist Inn – Located right in the center of town, offering great quality rooms for a fair price.
Awapuhi Hotel & Resort – Opened in 2026, this modern property features high standards, modern amenities, and a massive swimming pool.
Cocovana Beach Resort – Located about 5 km outside town. The ideal place if you prefer staying directly on the beach to unwind.
