Because this trip crosses open ocean waters and stays on remote islands, weather conditions dictate the quality of your experience. The weather in Palawan is shaped by two opposing monsoon seasons: the Amihan (northeast monsoon, dry season) and the Habagat (southwest monsoon, wet season).
1. The Ideal Window: November to May (Dry Season)
If you want smooth seas, clear blue skies, and optimal underwater visibility in places like Linapacan, book during the dry season.
December to February (Prime Peak Season): These months offer the most stable weather, light winds, and pleasant, slightly cooler evening temperatures. The open-sea crossings between El Nido and Coron are usually very smooth. Note: This is peak tourist season, so tours fill up fast and need to be booked weeks in advance.
March to May (The “Sweet Spot”): March and April are widely considered the best overall months. Ocean conditions remain calm, water visibility at snorkel sites reaches up to 30 meters, and crowd sizes start to ease. May gets warmer and more humid, with late-May bringing early signs of the upcoming rainy season, though most departures run smoothly.

The southwest monsoon (Habagat) peaks from July through October, bringing heavy rainfall, rough seas, and wind.
July, August, and September: These are the most difficult months for island expeditions. Strong southwest winds make open-water crossings choppy, and heavy downpours reduce underwater visibility.
Typhoon Risk: While Palawan sits slightly further south than the main Philippine typhoon belt, passing tropical storms frequently cause Coast Guard groundings. If the Philippine Coast Guard issues a swell or storm alert, boats are strictly forbidden from leaving port, leading to last-minute cancellations or stranded trips.

3. Transition Months: June & November
June: The start of the wet season. Early June can still offer great trips, but as the month progresses, weather patterns become unpredictable with afternoon rainstorms.
November: The turnaround month. Rains fade, the sea calms down, and the islands are lush and green after the wet season. Late November is an excellent, quieter window to go just before the Christmas rush.
